Chapter 5

Early the next morning the Professor woke us all up early. “Hurry up now, we can't delay ourselves by sleeping too long. There is some fruit and bread in all of your backpacks, eat some and we'll be on our way.” He said as he clapped his hands together. Sleepily, I got up from my sleeping-bag. Star, who was curled up by my head, meowed loudly as if he were complaining about his disturbed slumber. I scratched behind his ears. “Sorry Star, But we have to get up now.” Riley stood up and yawned, “I think I slept on a rock last night.” James and Wolfgang were getting up as well. They had their breakfast of some bread and fruit out and were consuming it. I got up and went to my backpack to get my breakfast too. Star followed; it amazes me how he knew where I was. The Professor was watching Star as well, “It seems he has learned your scent, so he knows where you are at. This is a good sign, it means he trusts you.” I nodded and took a bit out of my bread. Then I broke off a piece for Star, who purred gratefully and ate it. “Why are we eating so light? Wouldn't we just get hungry soon?” Wolfgang asked, raising an eyebrow. Prof. Caomhnoir shook his head, “No. This is a specially made bread for traveling. It was certain ingredients so the person who eats it feel full but not too full.” Wolfgang nodded. After we ate and packed up camp we started towards South. Star strolled along side me, using his stronger senses to follow along. I decided to ask the Professor more about where we're going and what lies ahead. He was ahead of everyone else, walking calmly but seemed alert as well. I quickened my pace to catch up with him. “So, what other beast and things are in the South?” I ask when I finally reach him. The Professor straightened his glasses before answering. “Well, more Shadow Lupus, without a doubt. Maybe some Other Shadow beast like Shadow Tigris, Shadow Sustinere, and maybe some Shadow Aranea.” I shuddered at the thought of facing a Shadow Aranea. They have eight hairy legs and four large black, soulless-like eyes. Not to mention their deadly fangs, which is one of the reasons why they are one of the most feared Shadow Beast. This is the type of Shadow Beast that had attacked me when I was little. Ever since then I had always been afraid of them. Prof. Caomhnoir spoke again, “It is also quite possible to come across a Shadow Venumun Serpentis. We must keep an eye out for them.” “Shadow Venumun Serpentis? What's that?” Riley, who was on the other side of me, asked curiously. “The Shadow Venumun Serpentis is one of the most poisonous beasts out there. They are snake-like and huge venomous fangs. Get bite by one and you have 72 hours to find the cure for it. If the bitten person doesn't get cure in their body to fight the venom they will die. If you see one stay away from it, they are very fast and dangerous.” We all nodded and walked on in silence. While we traveled I studied the terrain. We were still walking on a large grassland that was near the edge of a forest. We seen very few creatures so far, a few birds flying over head and bugs that were either in the air of crawling on the ground. None of them done us harm, except those pesky blood suckers. “Look, a dirt road.” Riley pointed out. Sure enough, there was a dirt road about 13 feet in front of us. The Professor nodded, “We may have to travel on it for a bit. But I do not know if it will lead us all the way where we need to go.” “Hey, I think I see somebody on the path.” James said, straining his eyes to see better. He was right, when we came closer you could see a short man, probably a peddler, and a toppled over cart. Ravens flew around his cart, looking for spilled food. The peddler jumped up and down at them, trying to scare them off. “Oh my.' The Professor muttered as he started to rush ahead to help the man. We followed close behind, scaring off the ravens as we approached. “Hello sir. We see you are in a bit of trouble. Can we be of service to assist you?” The Professor asked, bowing slightly to the peddler. He nodded, “Yes please! A horrible man in dark red with a small horde of bad mannered solders tipped my cart in this ditch and took most of my food and water supplies! Now one of my wheel are broken.” The peddler looked sorrowfully at his broken cart. Me and Wolfgang exchanged looks and Prof. Caomhnoir raised an eyebrow, “Oh? He sounds like the man we are after. My students will attend to your cart. Please tell me which direction this man went.” As the Professor and the peddler talked me,Riley, Wolfgang, and James pushed the cart out of the muddy ditch. Mr Merdock jumped on-top of the cart and meowed at us, as if he was ordering us about. Star had managed to climb on the cart too, but instead of meowing he batted his paws playfully at Mr Merdock, who ignored him. Once we got it out of the ditch we found a spare wheel in the cart. While Wolfgang and James lifted the cart, me and Riley placed the wheel on the axis of the cart. When we were just finishing up the Professor and peddler came up to us. “Thank you so much for putting my cart back together again.” He thanked us. “And thank you for the important information. Just North of here there is a small town called Cururibita Hollow, go there. They may need some of your tools to rebuild the town.” The peddler nodded at the Professor. “I will. But before I go I must tell you one more thing. I over heard some of those soldiers talking about pillaging all the towns they can find. And then overrun the Warrior's Academy. They also referred to their leader as 'Supreme Overlord of All'.” The Professor then had a look of worry. “Then it is worse than I imagined. Thank you again.” We got the cats out of the cart then waved good bye to the peddler as he headed North. Then I turn to the Professor, “Where to now and what is going to be worse than you imagined?” The Professor sighed, “I thought Hakai Nori just wanted revenge on the Academy and pillage the towns of the all of the teacher's and professor's hometowns. But now I know that is not all he intends to do. Come along now we must not delay. We head Southeast on this path.” He said no more, as if he didn't want to talk about it, and started to walk that way. Us student exchanged glances, then with out another word we followed. But I had questions, questions I thought needed to be answered.

Although I have not read every sentence in the novel (which I intend to do), I can say that I am impressed with the characterisation of each of the characters, they each have a distinct behaviour which allows them to stand out as individuals in the novel whenever they speak or perform an action. I noticed that this novel has a lot history underlying much of the events that happen throughout and I would think that you would then be able to write a spin-off novel explaining, for example, the history of the school and its founding members. Nice work, I'll make sure I get through the second half of this to give you a more comprehensive review in the future.

Chapter 6
We continued to walk on the dirt path, where Hakai Nori's tracks were visible. Nobody spoke as we traveled, and whenever I tried to question Professor Caomhnoir about Hakai Nori he just remained silent. I gave up trying to get answers out of him and walked beside Wolfgang and the others. “How much farther do think Hakai Nori is ahead of us.?” I asked nobody in particular. “Hopefully not much further.” James grunted moodily(as usual). Wolfgang shook his head, “I'm not sure. But these footprints do not seem very old.” The road then started to get rugged as we started to approach the side of a small mountain. The dirt path ran along of the mountain as far I could see ahead. “ This Mountain is named Falcon's Peek. There is a town just on the other side. However, we will not climb it, to dangerous with out proper equipment. There is another entrance up further on this dirt road.” The Professor called back to us. Mr Merdock, who tagged along side the Professor meowed as if repeating his orders to us. I looked up at the mountain in aw. It looked beautiful from down here, though it made the pathway rugged with fallen rocks and cracks. Star, with his head popped out of an open pocket in my backpack, mewed with hunger. “Where almost to a resting stop Star, I'll feed you there.” I reached back and scratched behind his ears. He purred then curled up inside the pocket. Up ahead there was some ferns over-grown tree limbs hanging over what seemed like an entrance. Beside the them was a sign that read “This Way to Falcon Falls”, which I assumed was the town we were heading for. As we pushed through the ferns and branches, I could see a glimpse of the town. It looked like it was smoking, and I heard screams of fear.... “What? What is happening to the town?!” The Professor pushed his way out of the ferns. “The town is being attacked, get out your weapons and prepare to fight!” He ordered as he took out his sword. Mr Merdock was on his shoulder growling with his fur fluffed out. I un-sheath my sword and push my way out of the ferns, as did the others. Hakai Nori's soldiers were everywhere raiding the town. Some townsfolk ran and hide to get away from them, some tried fighting back. “Try not to get separated in battle. If you can, make sure you are with one of each at all times to avoid separation. Go now!” At the Professor's orders we charged in to fend off the villains. I shook as I ran in, I never been in a real battle before, only ones in sparing and battle training. Riley took on a soldier who was looting a wagon full of supplies. Wolfgang and James were battling a group of them near what looked like a store. Then I heard Star hissing from the backpack pocket. I turn around to see a solider charging at me with a spear. Reacting quickly, I jump to the side and swing my sword at his legs. He howled in pain and crawled away as fast as he could. Star climbed on my shoulder growled. “Thanks for the help Star.” Suddenly Mr Merdock ran past me and leaped on soldier's head and started scratching furiously at his face. Wouldn't to get into A fight with him... Looking past them I seen a few children who were cornered by four soldiers. With a battle cry, I ran straight at them with my sword raised. The first soldier I took by surprise. Blood poured down his chest as he stumbled about, trying to get out of the blade's path. The others ones were still in shock, but on then recovered and swung his sword at my knees. I swiftly dodged it and thrusted my sword at his chest. He blocked it with his sword, and it made a loud “CLANG!” as both blades meet. By that time, his comrades were fully recovered from shock and surrounded both my sides. One had a battle axe and the other a javelin. Mine and swordsman soldier still had our blades together, and I had no way of taking a move without the other two striking a blow at me. Star hissed and spat at them at my shoulder. The one with the axe laughed, “What's this? A little ball of fur challenging us?” The others laughed with him. With a final hiss, Star jumped on the solider with the axe face and bite his big nose. “Ergh!!!Get this fleabag off of me!!” He dropped his axe and tried pulling Star off, but his claws were fixed on to the soldier's face. While the other soldiers were distracted, I shove the one with the sword into some barrels. Then got ready for the other with the javelin to attack. But before he could Wolfgang, who just come to aid me, swung his sword down on the javelin forcing it into the ground. As he tried getting his javelin out of the ground Wolfgang stabbed his side with his sword. He immediately dropped his weapon and screamed in agony. I nod my thanks to Wolfgang. Then the swordsman soldier started to get up from the toppled over barrels. He advanced toward me, swinging his blade at my left side. I block by knocking away his sword with mine, then I kick his gut. Which sent him back to ontop of the destroyed barrels. So he wouldn't attack again, I stab is right foot with my blade. Blood gushed out of it and he scrambled to retreat. “Good job.” Wolfgang nodded. “Thanks.” I stuttered, trying to regain breath. James came up to us with Star in his arms, who was perfectly fine and was batting his paws at James playfully. “Here's your cat. It seems like the soldiers are retreating.” He said as he handed me Star. I grabbed Star and nodded, “Yes, it think we have scared them off.” But James didn't seem to hear, his was staring at something or someone. I follow his gaze, he was staring at the one I heard Hakai Nori call Commander. I look back at James. While he remained expressionless, his eyes seemed to burn in anger and vengence. But Why? My thoughts were busted as The Professor, with Mr Merdock tagging along side him, and Riley approached. “They are starting to retreat. Except for that group taking off with a wagon of supplies, we need to find a way to stop them.” He said as he pointed to the soldiers heading down an ally going out of town. “I got them!” I yelled with excitement. I took off towards them down the ally. I heard somebody shouting at me but I couldn't here what it was. Once I got close enough to the wagon, I jumped on it while shoving off a soldier in the process. One that was next to the soldier driving got up. I turn to him with my blade in front of me. He appeared to have no weapon, so I took a step forward ready to strike. But then he grabbed something in the wagon that I didn't see before, a mace. The soldier swung it around his head once then aimed it for my head. I duck down, I felt it just barely missing the top of my head. Other soldiers with different kinds of weapons surrounded the wagon. The Commander rode up on a Shadow equo, which quite surprised me. I never seen anyone ride on any type of Shadow creature. “Don't worry about her. We did what needed to be done here. Get rid of her and get moving!” He barked his orders in a nasty way. The soldier with the mace took another swing at me. I backed up, getting out of its path. But the mace hit my blade, knocking it out of my hand and off the wagon. The wagon was picking up a bit of speed now, and I was on the edge of the wagon. I struggled to keep balance. With a great yell, the soldier wielding the mace swung it around his head to get speed and power for his next strike. Star, who was still on my shoulder, mewed nervously. Thinking fast, I grab a large bag of flour and used it as a shield. The mace landed a blow on the middle of the flour bag and sent me flying off of the wagon. I landed on the ground with a great 'THUD!'. The small army of the soldiers and their commander rode off with the wagon of supplies. Star jumped of my shoulder and onto the ground shaking, this must of really frightened him. I heard voices and foot steps coming towards me. I turn my head right to see Riley, Wolfgang, the Professor, and James running toward me. Riley was the first to reach me. “Kairi! Are you alright?” She asked as she helped me off of the ground. I shook my head. “I-I think so.” “You need to be more careful and not run off on us like that.” Wolfgang said sternly as he narrowed his eyes. James said nothing, he only stared out where the wagon of supplies and soldiers disappear into the tall ferns. I looked at Professor Caomhnoir. He said nothing also, but instead shook his head and had an expression of disappointment. I hung my head, not meeting anyone's eyes. I knew I had just messed up big time.

Somebody need to make this an anime.
My brother is wanting to get into anime so if I do think about turning it into one I'll have my brother help out with that. But I'm a long ways off from this being ready for anything right that. After I'm down with all my chapters in this story I'll be going back and editing some things to make it better. Right now I'm just making a rough draft for the novel.

Another cliffhanger? Maybe in a few years you'd come back, and make it better than before. Even still, pretty good...

Tip: Calm down with the cliffhangers... Yes, you did it... Kinda. If you use it twice in a row or more, or make patterns with it, you'll kinda loose your edge on the readers after a while.

(Just finished reading and re-reading. Free time while I wait)
I didn't mean to put a cliffhanger there. I intended on adding more but I just decided to post it for now.

I am so sorry guy, I accidentally posted the wrong chapter(thank you @... for noticing my mistake)! I deleted my last post of the other chapter so here's the right chapter I was suppose to post.
(I'm so embarrassed. I'm just going to go hide in a box right now)
Chapter 7

I felt the hard, stern stare of Professor Caomhnoir, even though I did not meet his gaze. “What were you thinking? We could of found a way to stop them from taking the cart if it wasn't for your foolish self rushing ahead alone!” His harsh words struck me like a stone. Guilt and regret filled up inside me. “I'm sorry. I thought I cou-” “You thought nothing! You rushed ahead by yourself like a dim-wit without waiting for the others! You also disobeyed my orders of staying together, and now the town has less supplies because of it.” Silence fell as he stopped speaking. None of the others dare spoke up, but instead looked at the ground kicking at dirt or taking sudden interest of gazing into nearby trees. The Professor turned to look at them, “You three go see if any of the townsfolk need help of clearing away damage. After that you may eat and take a rest. Go now, I must speak with Miss Kairi alone.” Wolfgang and James nodded and started for the main street of the town. Riley gave me a sympathetic look before turning to leave. I gulped. Star jumped on my lap and mewed nervously, he was shaking with fear. I rub his ears to comfort him, then look up at the Professor waiting for my punishment. The Professor sighed, “Not only did you put yourself in danger but you also put your responsibility, Star, in danger as well. He could have been severely injured because of your foolishness. Though he is a battle cat he is still only a kitten, and in a way you are too. Young and ignorant, also you are still just learning to be a warrior.” I looked into the Professor's eyes and asked, “Are you going to punish me now?” The Professor shook his head then bent over to help me up off of the ground. “You did disobey my orders, but the punishment is not going to be severe. I believe your guilt and regret is punishing you quite a bit right now. The townsfolk are going to need all the food they can get, go gather some berries over by the stream.”He pointed across the town at some trees. Through the trees I could spot some moving water. And I could hear a waterfall as well which I didn't notice before, probably because of the fight. “Yes sir.” I said as I started for the stream. But the Professor stopped me by placing his hand on my shoulder. “I am not angry Kairi, but disappointed. I expect great thing to come out of you, and I still do. You're a kind-hearted person with a sense of justice. But your ignorance of rushing ahead and taking danger on alone will blind you if you're not careful. At times you going to need help, you don't have to do it alone. Do you understand?” I nodded, “Yes sir, I understand. I'll try my best for now on!” He smiled and released his grip on my shoulder, “Now that's what I want to hear from a warrior. You are dismissed to carry out your orders.” I walked across the town towards the stream. Before going to the berry bushes I asked a woman, who was stacking some salvageable stuff in a store, if she had a basket to carry berries in. She nodded her head and picked up a basket near a rocking chair. “This one should do. There are various types of berries near the stream. Blackberries, a few raspberries, and there are big juicy blueberries a little farther up near the stream. Just be careful not to fall in.” I thank her for the basket and advice. Then I head off near the stream with tagging along behind. As I got closer to the stream the sound of rushing water got louder. Pushing away some ferns I made my way to the stream and found the berry bushes. Up farther I could see the waterfall coming down the mountain's side. To make sure Star didn't venture near the stream I picked him up and set him on one of my shoulders. I scared off a few birds as I started picking the various types of berries from different bushes. After finding the best berries the basket was almost filled and getting heavy. I set the basket on the ground because my arms started to ache from carrying it for so long. Star meowed and licked his blue chops, which he got from a few blueberries I gave him earlier. “Silly cat, you don't need anymore.” I told him as I scratch behind his ears. “Hi Kairi! Need some help?” Riley exclaims as she, Wolfgang, and James push through the ferns. I was about ready to decline her offer, but then stopped because I remembered what the Professor had told me earlier. “Sure, I could use some help.” I smiled. Working together we filled the rest of the basket and carried it back to town. The townsfolk were so grateful for us coming and helping them they made a small feast. “Hue, good thing I didn't eat a lot earlier. Because this food looks delicious Wolfgang grinned. James nodded in agreement. The food was delicious, and they also brought out pies some housewives made from the berries we picked earlier. Everyone seemed to be happy as some danced and singed around a fire some men built(for it was getting dark). Children ran around the tables playing or trying to catch Mr Merdock to pet him. Mr Merdock didn't enjoy it as much as the children did. The Professor chuckled at his cat, “Fearless against fully grown men, scared to death of small children.” Star, on the other hand, enjoyed the children. He laid on his back purring with delight as he let the children rub his stomach. I smiled to myself as I looked around. Though it first started out as something bad it seemed to turn into something good and happy.

Chapter 8

It was bright and sunny out as we traveled away further from Falcon's Peek. Thankfully the trees of this jungle-like place provided shade for us as we followed the soldier's tracks on the path. It was just an hour ago we left Falcon Falls town. The people there were sad to see us go but they still gave more supplies for our journey. I could still hear Falcon Fall's rushing waters, though it was getting softer as we traveled further away from it. “Do you think we'll catch up to them soon?” I ask the Professor. “It's hard to tell. Though the cart does provide us some good tracks of them. Hopefully sooner than later we'll meet up with them, I don't like the idea of battling at night.” He informed as he swatted away a pesky fly that was buzzing around his face. “We don't even know if Hakai Nori is with them. He wasn't there at Falcon Falls when some of his horde invaded it. Maybe he is taking a different route?” Wolfgang pondered out loud. James kicked a rock and muttered something. I'm not sure if anybody else heard him but this what he muttered, “I don't care just as long I meet up with the Commander!” This puzzled me, what business did James have with the Commander? The Professor's response to Wolfgang popped my bubble of thought. “It's to late to turn back and see if he did. We'll just have to hope we find him.” After he finished speaking silence fell among us as it usually did. We carried on following the tracks the cart, which the soldiers stole, left behind until we reached a large water crossing. The cart which we were following laid all taken apart near the creek. This wasn't some small creek which current was slow pace. The creek was somewhat broad, and the water was slightly going downhill making its current move faster. On the other side a bridge like thing that sat on the shore but also partially still in the water. It looked long enough to reach both sides of the creek. “I believe the ones we follow made themselves bridge out of the supplies and the cart.” The Professor said, adjusting his glasses. Riley spoke up, “Not only that but I think they know we are following them.” “Well that's the least of our worries, how are we going to cross?” James growled. Wolfgang grabbed a long stick from some bushes and stuck one end in the water. The water lapped up little more than half way up the stick. “If this current wasn't so fast we could of wadded across. Looks like we're going to have to find a way to reach other side another way.” Everyone stopped to think. Star jumped out of his little pocket from my backpack onto the ground. I watched him smell around the area. Soon he found Mr Merdock on a rock near some vines. Star pounced on him playfully, but Mr Merdock was in no mood to play. He hissed at Star and jumped away from him. I shook my head at Star, “When will you learn to leave him alone?” Then I noticed something about the vines. They were hanging over the creek a little bit, but they looked long enough to reach... “I got an idea!” I blurted out as I sprinted towards the vines and scooped up Star. Wolfgang looked at me and raised an eyebrow, “Well? Go ahead and say it, don't want to stand here any longer than I have to.” I put Star back in his pocket and grab a vine. “We swing across!” Riley jumped up excitedly, “Yes! What a great idea, sounds fun too!” The Professor nodded, “Good job at looking around our surroundings to help us. Well down Miss Bellator.” James just shrugged and Wolfgang grinned. “Crazy idea, but not crazy enough to not try it!” We all grabbed vines; the Professor had to put Mr Merdock in his jacket(which was buttoned up) so he wouldn't get left behind. “Ready,go!” I shouted. Everyone took a small running start and jumped up, swinging over the creek to the other side. Once we reached the other side I grabbed a nearby tree branch and let go of the vine. Star popped his head out of the pocket and meowed loudly as if he was expressing excitement. “That was fun.” Riley smiled and she let go of her vine regained balance. James, as usual, just shrugged and remained expressionless. “I do agree that was quite fun. But we must continue now a little further before it becomes dark.” The Professor stated. Before continuing onward we made sure nothing fell out from our supplies. We traveled for quite awhile before setting up camp under the jungle-like trees. Everyone was so worn out from traveling we didn't bother making a fire. We all took out our sleeping bags and got inside them. Soon I found myself drifting asleep.....

Something wasn't right. I sat up quickly and reached for my sword. But it wasn't there. “Hue hue. Not so strong now are you girl?” A deep, gruff voice said above me. I looked up quickly, a man in dark red looked down at me from atop of a rock. I growled, “Hakai Nori.”

I've read 7 of the 8 chapters now. I don't want to read number 8 yet since ill just have to wait for the next instalment, but I have to say that I was really impressed with chapter 7, even though there wasn't really any action to speak of, I felt that it really delved deep into the relationship between Kairi and Professor Hermione (or whatever his name is). I think this sets up the final few chapters as ones which will demonstrate the maturity and growth of Kairi as she evolves into a responsible and strong warrior.
My favourite line: "You thought nothing!"

It's Professor Caomhnoir(Irish for 'Guardian'). And thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it ^_^

Chapter 9

Hakai Nori looked down at me with my sword in his hand. 'So you know who I am. I assume that the Professor told you, but I bet he didn't tell you everything.” He smiled wickedly, “So what are you going to do now little warrior? I certainly hope not call for your friends, they seem busy at the moment.” I looked at the others, all them awake and had soldiers with weapons pointed at them. The Professor looked at Hakai Nori, “Why are you doing this? You have been defeated before and can be again.” Hakai Nori chuckled, “Ah Professor, you old dog, shouldn't you know the answer to why I'm here? You and your warriors at that lousy excuse for an academy crushed my plans one. But not again! This time I have a horde at my command to get my revenge on the warriors that drove me to my exile. But a horde wasn't all I brought.” He held up a black, oval-shaped stone. But it wasn't just any stone, this was a Shadow's Eye Stone. Created to control Shadow Creature. But only to keep them away from farms and towns. Though they are fearsome looking they're not really aggressive unless frightened or if someone os in there territory. They often wonder into farms and towns scavenging for food, so the warriors made these stones and gave them to farmers and a few town's folk. But some of them became power hungry and abused the Shadow's Eyes Stone. So The warriors took the stones and hide them and never made them again. Wolfgang looked at the stone, “How did you get a Shadow's Eye Stone? Warriors got rid of those long ago.” Hakai Nori smiled, “Well that's suppose to be a secret, so I shouldn't tell everyone how I found it. Now should I? But I will tell you this. I did originally come for revenge alone. But I thought 'Well Hakai Nori old boy, you can do much better than that!' Why should I just stop at revenge? I have a horde and Shadow creatures at my command! No I shall take this land as my own. And those who try to stop me will be crushed, like I have been crushed before!” The smile disappeared from his face and was replaced by a heartless stare. Star, who woke up when the commotion started, pressed up against my side and shivered with fright. Hakai Nori stretched out his hand with the stone in it and yelled, “Shadow Creatures come to me! Come and attack these petty little threats!” The stone glowed a little. I could hear growls, snarls, and hisses in the distance. Hakai Nori laughed, his soldiers joined as well. “Now Mr Merdock!” I heard the Professor yell. I turn to look in his direction. Mr Merdock had jumped on one of the soldiers near the Professor and was scratching his face. While some of the soldiers were distracted Wolfgang, James and Riley bolted up. Wolfgang punched one's stomach and took away his weapon. James grabbed another one's battle axe, pulls him forward with it, then kicks him. Riley swept a foot under a soldier's and grabbed her sword when he hits the ground. “hold your positions!” Yelled the Commander. James turned to him with the battle axe, “You will pay!” He hissed and charged at him. The Commander stepped back and took out a giant hammer and blocked the battle axe with it. The others engaged in battle as well. I jump up grab for my sword while Hakai Nori is distracted. But he seen me coming and pushed me down with a blow from his free arm. I fall to the ground and suddenly find myself face to face with a Shadow Venenum Serpentis! They were one of the most poisonous Shadow creatures, one bit form them and you'd be dead within two days unless you found the remedy. It hissed and came a bit close towards me. I didn't move, scared that I would get bitten if I did. Hakai Nori laughed, “What's the matter? Stuck in a tight spot? Hhaha! You fool!” He grabbed my sword threw it at me. It landed near a rock not to far from me. I knew I could reach it, but if I moved the Venenum Serpentis may strike. If only I could grab it fast enough...

Roaring with laughter, Hakai Nori turned away, “You wanted your sword didn't you? Well now you can have it, if you dare!” I looked back at the Shadow creature, its eyes were soulless black as it stared right back at me. Hakai Nori chuckled and yelled at the Commander, “Bring my horde to me! No sense in fighting these fool further. Let them make the choice of chasing us” He looked at me and grinned wickedly. “Or stay and help their pitiful friend!” I had a terrible feeling about what he said. The Shadow Creature hissed louder, as if impatiently waiting for a command. The Commander, who was still engaged in a fight with James, shoved him down and sneered, “We'll finish this later boy! Soldiers, cease combat and follow me!” He ran into the trees, going deeper into the jungle. When James was shoved the battle axe he had was a bit heavy for him and made him have difficulty getting up. “Coward!” He shouted after the retreating soldiers. Before going after his horde Hakai Nori raised the Shadow's Eye stone again and chanted, “Venenum Serpentis, strike!” Somebody shouted “Kairi no!” I didn't have time to see who it was, the shadow creature had its mouth open ready to strike. I had no other choice but to make a grab for the sword. The Shadow creature reacted when I made a grab for it and lounged at me. Once I had the sword I managed to turn around with the sword pointed at it. The blade slide through its throat, but It still managed to sink its teeth into my left shoulder. I let go of the sword and yelled out with pain. The Venenum Serpentis slumped over to the side dead when I dropped my blade. The sword still stuck in its throat. Dizziness took over me, and my eyes started to blur. Fuzzy figures appeared in front of me. One of them shouting while shaking me, though I couldn't make out what it was. Darkness fell over me as I became unconscious.

Chapter 10

My eyes slowly opened, my vision was still a little blurred. “Hey, she's waking up!” I heard a voice. I blinked as my vision became better. The familiar jungle trees and vines were above me. Dew was on grass and it was a bit foggy out, so I knew it was early morning. Groaning, I sat up and rubbed my head, “What happened?” “You were bitten by a Venenum Serpentis, Miss Kairi. Don't you remember?” I turn my head to the speaker, Professor Camhnoir. I still felt dizzy, but soon I started to recall what happened. “Oh, now I do. What's going to happen to me?” “You're just going to feel sick for now. Luckily I know the remedy.” He said as he stirred a small pot over a fire. Wolfgang was on the other side of the fire, making sure it didn't go out. Riley was helping James by bandaging a wound he had on his arm. Wolfgang looked up at me with a worried expression, “You feel alright?” I nodded my head, “I little, I just feel dizzy.” “You'll feel that way for a while. Here, drink this.” He pours the stuff he had in the pot into a bowl and handed it to me. “It's Medela Tea. The leaves it comes from are medela leaves, the juice of the leaves are used as venom remedies.” I take the bowl from him and try it. It tasted like a little of mint and was very refreshing. “It tastes nice, thank you.” I thank the Professor as I set the bowl down. I felt something rub up against me, I look down and see Star pressing his head up against me. He looked up at me with his blue eyes and meowed as if he was worried. I rub his ears, “I'll be fine, Star.” I then look at the Professor, “When do we break camp and follow Hakai Nori?” Riley looked over at me with horror, “Breaking camp when you just got bitten by one of the most poisonous creatures out there?! You need to rest more!” But the Professor put a hand up for silence. “That is your choice Miss Kairi. Do you still want to follow him? You've seen what he is capable of. I could be better to go get reinforcements from the Academy.” I thought for a moment. Hakai Nori was powerful.... I shook my head, “No, He could attack another town or even send a raid against the Academy by the time we get back with reinforcements. I will follow him.” The Professor nodded respectfully, “I respect your decision. Let us break camp then.” He got up and helped me off the ground. Standing up made me a bit dizzy, but I managed to get around. James got up and picked up the battle axe he gotten from the fight and lifted up on one of his shoulders. Wolfgang, looking a bit skeptical about breaking camp, grabbed his sword and put it in his belt. Riley just shook her head and started packing too. After putting out the fire, we headed off in the direction of where Hakai Nori went.

I felt dizzy all over, but I keep on pushing forward along with the others. “We're close on their tracks I think. They're heading for that mountain.” The Professor pointed at a mountain not to far away. I clear my dry throat, “If we sprint we can make it there faster and catch up with them.” Riley looked at me, “Are you sure you want to run?” I nodded, “yes, we need to catch up with them.” “Alright, but please be careful Miss Kairi.” The Professor said. Wolfgang didn't say anything and Jame just grunted as he hoisted up the hefty battle ax on his shoulder. We all started to sprint towards the mountain. My head throbbed with pain as we did, but it did get us there quicker. By the time we made it to the mountain my head felt like it was spinning. I stopped by some rocks that must of tumble down the mountain some time ago to regain breath. I look up toward the side of the mountain and see what looks like an old mine entrance. “Hey guys look! I think they went in there.” I pointed at the mine. The Professor looks toward the mine. “It certainly does look like they went in there. Everyone ready yourselves and we'll...Miss Kairi are you all right?” I was on the ground, breathing heavily and with a major headache. The poison's side effects caught up to me, probably didn't jump to run either. Riley help knelt down by me and help sat me up. “take it easy Kairi, here take a drink out of this canteen.” She hands me a canteen. I took it and chugged down the water, my throat was really dry. I finish drinking and manage to gasp, “Thanks.” “I knew this would happen.” Wolfgang snorted. I look at him, “Knew what would happen?” “This! You senselessly tired yourself out! You recovered from a venom bit and start running around. I know you want to catch up to Hakai Nori but that gives you no reason to be a fool about it.” That really got under my skin, I was tired and frustrated at the moment and Wolfgang goes and says that to me. “I'm not being a fool. Hakai Nori has Shadow Creatures under his command and who knows what damage he can do next. We need to stop him as soon as possible!” I growl back. “We exhausting yourself out isn't going to be much help either.” “I'm not exhausted! I just felt dizzy for a while, I'm perfectly fine now.” “Riiiight.” Wolfgang exaggerated the word. I was about to shoot something back him when The Professor came in between us. “That's enough, you two.” He said firmly. Wolfgang turned around, obviously still mad. “Fine, if she doesn't want to listen she can go right ahead.” with that he started for the mine entrance. Riley helped me up. “you alright?” “I'm fine.” I quickly said, as I head for the mine. James just shrugged and followed along, as did Riley and the Professor. Star popped his head out of the backpack pocket and meowed. I push him back down in it, “Stay in there Star, who knows what's in here.” As I had thought, the horde's tracks lead into the mine. The Professor motioned for us to be quiet then cautiously walked in. I had to be careful not to trip on the mine cart tracks, for there was little lighting in there. Soon we made it to a broad part of the cave where I assume miners dug around for coal and stuff. Equipment was everywhere, but no sign of the horde or Hakai Nori. “Where they at?” I whisper to the Professor. “I'm not su-” “Ambush!” James suddenly yelled. I grab my sword and turn to see soldiers charging at us. I ignore my headache and prepare to fight. As the first few soldiers come at me I jumped out of their way and swing my sword at their feet. They feel down, but more advanced on me. I could here the others trying to push back the numerous soldiers. “There's to many!” I shouted. Riley finished stabbing a soldier then yelled back, “We need a way to get out of here!” I heard laughing near the mine entrance. I turn to see the Commander with his hefty hammer standing at the entrance. “Finish them! The others are waiting for us!” He yelled at his troops. Soldiers were blocking the path way out of the mine, we didn't have anywhere to go. “What will we do?” I look at the Professor. “I... I don't know...” “I know!” Wolfgang took his sword and started to hit a pole that prevented the mine from collapsing in. After a few whacks, the pole started to crack, as did the beams above us. “Run!” Wolfgang yelled. We started to run. James, the Professor, and Riley were ahead of me. Soldiers noticed what was happening and started to panic. They ran everywhere, trying to escape. I was almost out of the mine when I was tripped by the mine cart tracks. I could hear everything starting to cave in. I would never make it to the entrance now...
Suddenly I felt something lift me up off the ground and hurl me out of the collapsing mine. I land face first in some dirt. When I looked up I could see the surviving soldiers retreating with the Commander. I turn to look at the others. James, Riley, and the Professor all looked at the entrance with horror. James seen me looking at them and gave me a sympathetic look. “Kairi... I'm so sorry.” “Sorry about what?” He didn't answer. Then I notice something missing. Then it dawned on me. “I turn to look at the caved in mine. “WolfGang, No!”

Chapter 11
I scrambled to my feet and ran to what used to be the entrance of the mine. I tried to move rocks out of the way, “We need to get him out of there!” I yelled in a shaky voice. I felt a hand on my shoulder. “He's gone Kairi. I'm sorry...” I look up at the Professor with tear-filled eyes. “But he was like a brother to me. And I yelled at him.” 'It's alright Kairi, he made the choice himself to sacrifice his life. He was trying to protect you.” I looked into the Professor's eyes, they were full of sorrow and....regret? The Professor looked away, “We should go on our way now. Are you sure you still want to go?” I bowed my head and closed my head. Few seconds later it opened them again and rose. “Yes, Hakai Nori will pay for the lives he took.” “Just what I want to hear from a warrior. I have an idea of where they're going, the ruins of Tenbrae Arce.” James raised his head, “The 'Dark Fortress'?” The Professor nodded. “If we want to catch up with them we need to go right now.” I looked back at the mine which had Wolfgang buried underneath of it. “Then let us go.” I said, turning back around. We set off following Hakai Nori's trail yet again. Riley walked beside me, “Are you going to be ok?” I didn't say anything, only nodded. Riley didn't press the matter further. She nodded back and resumed walking. The tracks lead up some ways on a mountain trail. It was steep, but not too steep to climb. After about an hour of climbing the small mountain side, the Professor stopped and pointed at something in the distance. “The ruins of Tenbrae Arce.” I looked down close at it until I could see it. It was big and dark with some of the walls crumbled down. I noticed smoke rose from inside the ruins, I assumed it was Hakai Nori and his horde. “It's best we go there early in the morning. We're all tired and... still a bit shocked over that recent incident.” Of course, I knew the Professor was talking about when he said 'recent incident. We found a small flat spot to rest in. Though none of us dared built a fire so we wouldn't give our location off to the enemy. Riley sat on the ground and watched the bugs pass by her. The Professor leaned up against a rock and dozed off. I sat on a rock facing towards the ruins of Tenbrae Arce. I heard sit down next to me. “I'm sorry..” I turn to look at James, “ You don't have to apologize James, it wasn't your fault that Wolfgang di-” “No, that's not what I'm apologizing about. It's about the reason I came along on this journey.” I looked at him, “What about it?” “I didn't come just because I didn't want to be stuck at the school and miss out on an adventure, or just to help you guys out. I'm after somebody, somebody who killed my grandfather long ago in a battle...” He paused for a second, “I came because I want revenge on the Commander, and had no intentions of doing anything else but that.” He hung his head down. “But now I realized how close I've come to you guys. But it's to late to apologize to Wolgang now...” “I'm sure he would forgive you.” Riley said as she climbed up on the rock next to me and sat down. James looked up, “Really?” I nod, “Mhm. Just like me and Riley forgive you. Right Riley?” I turn to her. She nods too. James smiled, “Thank you.” I smiled back then fixed my gaze at Tenbrae Arce. “Tomorrow you can get your revenge. We all will.” Riley smiled and held her fist out. “For Curcurbita Hollow.” James looked up then put one of his fist next to Riley's, “For my Grandfather.” I looked at the fist held out in front of me. Star climbed up onto my shoulder and meowed loudly at me as if encouraging me. I grin and put my left fist next to theirs “For the Academy and Wolfgang.”

…....................

The next morning we were all up before the sun was barely peaking over the mountains. “Leave everything but your weapons and a little food here. We won't need them where we're going.” The Professor said as he let Mr Merdock climb up onto his shoulders. I nodded and laid my backpack somewhere safe. Riley and James did like wise. Once we were all ready, the Professor started to lead us down the mountain towards Tenbrae Arce. Nobody spoke as we traveled down the mountain, not even the birds sung. It was if everything knew that something was about to clash. By the time the sun was in the middle of the sky, we were near Tenbrae Arce. I look at the Professor, “Is there anyway we can take them by surprise?” He adjusted his glasses before answering, “There is one way that is possible. There's a hidden passage way underground Tenbrae Arce that may lead us to them. “Well then, what are we waiting for?” James said as he hoisted his battle ax up on his shoulder. Star, who was on my shoulders, meowed in agreement. The Professor nodded and started for the lower area of Tenbrae Arce. Once we found the door we all rushed in it quietly so nobody would hear or see us enter. The Professor pointed up the steps, “We go up there, get your weapons ready.” He lead us up the steps and eventually came to an old rusty door. The Professor grabbed the handle and whispered, “When I pull this, all of you charge into them with your arms ready. I'll be right behind you. Good luck.” I unsheathed my sword and held it in front of me, ready to charge. The Professor pulled on the handle and flung open the door. We all yelled and jumped out the door and charged into a few soldiers by the door, but there wasn't very many of them. What? I swung my sword at one of them, hitting his knee. While he was distracted by his pain, I stole the chance to look up. A whole line of ready soldiers and a handful of Shadow creature. The Commander was up front. “Attack!” He yelled as he held up his battle hammer. They knew we were coming! But there was no time to think about how because they were on us in matter of seconds. I heard Star hissing on my shoulder as he slashed some claws at a soldier getting to close. I turned to the soldier and strike him down. I could see Riley battling with a few soldiers to my right. I run over towards her and attack the soldiers from the side. Once we finished them off Riley exclaimed, “There's so many of them!” “I know, but thing could be wor-” I was interrupted by a loud screech. I whirl around to see a huge Shadow Aranea charging in the battle area. Hakai Nori then appeared ontop of a crumbled pile what used to be a column. “Crush them to pieces!” He laughed as he held up the Shadow's Eye Stone. Me and Riley had no time to speak. We both jumped out of the Shadow Arenea's way as it charged at us. It stopped and turned at me and screeched. Uh oh.. I scrambled back up from where I jumped and readied my sword. The Shadow Areanea came at me, I could see it's fearsome fangs as I tensed up. No! This is not the time to freeze up! When it came upon me I dove at one of it's eight legs and sliced at it. Star meowed loudly and gripped on tighter on my shoulder with his claws as I dove. I ignore the sharp pain and quickly get out of the way of the Shadow creature. It stumbled and struck out at me with an uninjured leg. I stab at the leg that comes at me and take a step back. It screeched again and waved around the stabbed leg. I took this moment to look closely at it. The under side of it looked weak. Without another thought, I run straight at the Shadow Areana and slide under it. Confused, it blindly tried to stab me with its back legs. I managed to dodge them because it really could not tell where I was at. I take my sword with both hands and thrust up into the Shadow creature's body. It screeched in pain and stumbled over on it's side. It twitched a bit but didn't make another move. I pull on my sword to get it out of the creature's carcass. “Oh look, the little warrior defeated a Shadow Areana.” I turn to see the Commander stand there with his hammer held up ready to send it down on me. I pull harder on my sword to get it out and The Commander laughed. Suddenly something crashed into the Commander and knocked him down. James looked at me and nodded, “I can handle him, go to Hakai Nori and take him down. If he's down, none of the soldiers will have anybody to lead them.” I look up at where Hakai Nori stood with the Shadow's Eyes Stone. I nod back at him and finally manage to pull out the sword. Star was still on my shoulders, a bit frightened but unharmed. I climb up onto the tumbled over column and charge at Hakai Nori. He glanced back and knocked me aside with his arm. “You can't stop me! You may of defeated one of the most powerful Shadow Creatures out there but I can still summon more! Hahahaha!!” I wiped some blood off my lip and look up at Hakai Nori's hand where the stone was. I needed to get it away from him... I look at my sword then back up at the hand. I grip onto the sword's hilt and hurl it at the stone. It gets knocked out of Hakai Nori's hand and falls down a crack. “What? No!” He whirls on me and takes out his sword. “You can't take my power away from me!” He boomed with a crazy look in his eyes. I scrambled up onto my feet and move out of the way of the sword. Hakai Nori then takes a dagger out of his belt and grinned, “This was your mother's. To bad she isn't here right now.” He threw it at my head with startling speed. I duck my head and the dagger sticks into the piece of ruins behind me. Hakai Nori cursed for missing under his breath. I grab the dagger and yank it out. “How did you get this?” I demanded. He grinned at me, “Now that's suppose to be a secret.” He swung his sword at me. I stepped to the side to dodge it. I couldn't reach him, his weapon was bigger and longer than mine. And I couldn't rush at him because he was constantly swinging his sword. “You think you can take power away from me? Never! Everyone shall be under my command and nobody will disobey me!” He laughed as he continue to swing his blade at me. I did my best to get out of its way, but then I tripped over a rock and fell backwards on my back. The dagger slipped out of my hand and slide away from where I could just almost reach it. Hakai Nori stood over me with a crazed look in his eyes as he held the sword over his head, ready to swing it down. “End of the li- AGH!” A silver figure darted past me and was now on Hakai Nori's face. It was Star! Hakai Nori dropped his sword and grabbed at Star, trying to pull him off. But Star held onto his face with his front claws and using his back ones to scratch his face. “Get off of me you stupid furball!” While he was distracted I made a grab for the dagger and jump at Hakai Nori with it. Star let go of his face and jumped out of the way before the dagger's blade reached Hakai Nori's throat. Hakai Nori made a gurgling noise as blood gushed from his throat. “How...” He fell to the ground with a great 'THUD!' with the dagger still stuck in his throat. I bend down and pull it out, blood dripped from it's tip. “Overlord Hakai Nori has been slain! Retre-” The Commander didn't finish the order. Because James had come up behind him and smashed his head with the battle ax. Soldiers cowered and started to run. Riley, The Professor, and Mr Merdock chased after a few that lagged behind. Star climbed up onto my shoulder and meowed. I look at him, “We did it Star.”

I have finished the 12th chapter as well. I will post it tomorrow(hopefully).

Chapter 12
Five days has passed since me, Riley, James, and the Professor came back. I leaned back on my desk in history class as Prof. Notch was grading our written reports. I already turned mine in last night, it took me hours to finish but I still made it in time. I took this time to think of my Aunt and Uncle. Uncle Bill was still injured, but he was making a slow recovery and Aunt Jessie seemed to be less stressed(we visited them before coming back to the Academy). Riley was back to her 'duty' of waking both me and James up early in the morning as well. I don't mind as much anymore, just as long as all three of stick together as a team. I reached down into my pocket and felt my mother's dagger that I received from the battle. I knew that someday that I would go look for her. “Ok class, everyone did a good job with there report on a ancient ruins of their choice. Class is now dismissed.” Prof. Notch, the history teacher imformed. I was gathered my books and started for the door like the rest of the students when Prof. Notch stopped me, “You did extremely well on an account of the ruins of Tenbrae Arce, Miss Bellator. I am happy to have you in this class.” He said with a smile. I smiled back, “Thank you. Though I hope to never go to that place again. It felt so dark.” “Indeed, that place does have a dark history. But only fate will tell if you must go there again or not. Oh, another thing, Professor Caomhnoir would like to see you in his office.” I thanked him for the information and headed for the Professor's office up the tower stairs. As I was climbing the steps a small, furry figure popped its head out of a backpack pocket. “Meow.” Star purred. I grin and rubbed his eyes, which he likes very much. Once I reached the Professor's door knocked. “Come in.” A voice came from the other side. I pull open the door and enter. “Ah, Miss Kairi, I see you got my message from Prof. Notch.” I nodded, “Did you need me to do something sir?” He smiled and got up from his chair. “No need to refer to me as 'sir' right now. I just wanted to well you and Star are getting along.” Star jumped onto the Professor's desk where Mr Merdock was napping. Mr Merdock, who was not impressed of Star's actions, gave a spat and proceeded to jump up onto a nearby shelf. “We're both fine. Basic Battle training went well today, and so did history class. I just wish I could get some more training with Star, but I really don't know what to do.” The Professor nodded, “That is another reason why I wanted you up here. I would like to offer you some personal training for you and Star with me and Mr Merdock. I am also moving you,Riley, and James up to Advance Battle training. You all proved more than enough that you can battle well.” I was a bit shocked by his offer, “Really? You can train me and Star?” I looked at him with hope. He nodded, “Yes, this actually the first time in years since I had a student be trained under me personally.” The Professor then frowned, “Hakai Nori was the last one I trained. He had a battle cat too. But then one day he foolishly commanded it to attack a Shadow Creature that crept to close to the school, the poor thing was killed. I then started to notice the change in him as he became devastated of his cat's death, he then went on eventually to blame people for its death. His anger made him strive for power in battle and he soon thought he could control anything with his strength. I regret teaching him what he knew. But I know that your heart is not corrupted like his was, I look forward to teaching you.” He turned his head toward me with a small smile. “I look forward to your long lectures.” I teased. He shook his head and chuckled, “Good, because I have quite a few of them. I see you still wear that Silver armor I gave you.” I nodded, “Yes, It's very comfortable and lightweight, but very strong as well.” The Professor sighed, “Unfortunately I believe you will have to use it again in battle at a young age.” “But next time I will be more prepared and better at fighting.” Professor Caomhnoir looked up and out the window with a smile, “Indeed you will be, Silver Warrior.
Edit: well this is my last chapter and I hope you guys enjoyed it. But just a reminder this whole story I posted is a basically my rough draft. I will be doing rewriting and edits in the future. But for now I will be taking a break from this story ^^

Well done Ruby, I enjoyed reading your story and was impressed with the way you managed to show the emotional relationship between each of the characters and how it changed as the story went on. The ending also reminded me of Harry Potter slightly, as there is always that ending to those books where the main characters get to briefly discuss the aftermath of their adventures. As a result, I could certainly see you being able to adding many more chapters to this in the future, if you so choose. You get my official 'YOU'RE WINNER!' award for great work.

Thank you Ellipses :]
Though I never read the Harry Potter series, it never tickled my fancy to read those books.
