Chapter 5
Early the next morning the Professor woke us all up early. “Hurry up now, we can't delay ourselves by sleeping too long. There is some fruit and bread in all of your backpacks, eat some and we'll be on our way.” He said as he clapped his hands together. Sleepily, I got up from my sleeping-bag. Star, who was curled up by my head, meowed loudly as if he were complaining about his disturbed slumber. I scratched behind his ears. “Sorry Star, But we have to get up now.” Riley stood up and yawned, “I think I slept on a rock last night.” James and Wolfgang were getting up as well. They had their breakfast of some bread and fruit out and were consuming it. I got up and went to my backpack to get my breakfast too. Star followed; it amazes me how he knew where I was. The Professor was watching Star as well, “It seems he has learned your scent, so he knows where you are at. This is a good sign, it means he trusts you.” I nodded and took a bit out of my bread. Then I broke off a piece for Star, who purred gratefully and ate it. “Why are we eating so light? Wouldn't we just get hungry soon?” Wolfgang asked, raising an eyebrow. Prof. Caomhnoir shook his head, “No. This is a specially made bread for traveling. It was certain ingredients so the person who eats it feel full but not too full.” Wolfgang nodded. After we ate and packed up camp we started towards South. Star strolled along side me, using his stronger senses to follow along. I decided to ask the Professor more about where we're going and what lies ahead. He was ahead of everyone else, walking calmly but seemed alert as well. I quickened my pace to catch up with him. “So, what other beast and things are in the South?” I ask when I finally reach him. The Professor straightened his glasses before answering. “Well, more Shadow Lupus, without a doubt. Maybe some Other Shadow beast like Shadow Tigris, Shadow Sustinere, and maybe some Shadow Aranea.” I shuddered at the thought of facing a Shadow Aranea. They have eight hairy legs and four large black, soulless-like eyes. Not to mention their deadly fangs, which is one of the reasons why they are one of the most feared Shadow Beast. This is the type of Shadow Beast that had attacked me when I was little. Ever since then I had always been afraid of them. Prof. Caomhnoir spoke again, “It is also quite possible to come across a Shadow Venumun Serpentis. We must keep an eye out for them.” “Shadow Venumun Serpentis? What's that?” Riley, who was on the other side of me, asked curiously. “The Shadow Venumun Serpentis is one of the most poisonous beasts out there. They are snake-like and huge venomous fangs. Get bite by one and you have 72 hours to find the cure for it. If the bitten person doesn't get cure in their body to fight the venom they will die. If you see one stay away from it, they are very fast and dangerous.” We all nodded and walked on in silence. While we traveled I studied the terrain. We were still walking on a large grassland that was near the edge of a forest. We seen very few creatures so far, a few birds flying over head and bugs that were either in the air of crawling on the ground. None of them done us harm, except those pesky blood suckers. “Look, a dirt road.” Riley pointed out. Sure enough, there was a dirt road about 13 feet in front of us. The Professor nodded, “We may have to travel on it for a bit. But I do not know if it will lead us all the way where we need to go.” “Hey, I think I see somebody on the path.” James said, straining his eyes to see better. He was right, when we came closer you could see a short man, probably a peddler, and a toppled over cart. Ravens flew around his cart, looking for spilled food. The peddler jumped up and down at them, trying to scare them off. “Oh my.' The Professor muttered as he started to rush ahead to help the man. We followed close behind, scaring off the ravens as we approached. “Hello sir. We see you are in a bit of trouble. Can we be of service to assist you?” The Professor asked, bowing slightly to the peddler. He nodded, “Yes please! A horrible man in dark red with a small horde of bad mannered solders tipped my cart in this ditch and took most of my food and water supplies! Now one of my wheel are broken.” The peddler looked sorrowfully at his broken cart. Me and Wolfgang exchanged looks and Prof. Caomhnoir raised an eyebrow, “Oh? He sounds like the man we are after. My students will attend to your cart. Please tell me which direction this man went.” As the Professor and the peddler talked me,Riley, Wolfgang, and James pushed the cart out of the muddy ditch. Mr Merdock jumped on-top of the cart and meowed at us, as if he was ordering us about. Star had managed to climb on the cart too, but instead of meowing he batted his paws playfully at Mr Merdock, who ignored him. Once we got it out of the ditch we found a spare wheel in the cart. While Wolfgang and James lifted the cart, me and Riley placed the wheel on the axis of the cart. When we were just finishing up the Professor and peddler came up to us. “Thank you so much for putting my cart back together again.” He thanked us. “And thank you for the important information. Just North of here there is a small town called Cururibita Hollow, go there. They may need some of your tools to rebuild the town.” The peddler nodded at the Professor. “I will. But before I go I must tell you one more thing. I over heard some of those soldiers talking about pillaging all the towns they can find. And then overrun the Warrior's Academy. They also referred to their leader as 'Supreme Overlord of All'.” The Professor then had a look of worry. “Then it is worse than I imagined. Thank you again.” We got the cats out of the cart then waved good bye to the peddler as he headed North. Then I turn to the Professor, “Where to now and what is going to be worse than you imagined?” The Professor sighed, “I thought Hakai Nori just wanted revenge on the Academy and pillage the towns of the all of the teacher's and professor's hometowns. But now I know that is not all he intends to do. Come along now we must not delay. We head Southeast on this path.” He said no more, as if he didn't want to talk about it, and started to walk that way. Us student exchanged glances, then with out another word we followed. But I had questions, questions I thought needed to be answered.
