Okay, I had $8 in iTunes credit still left over when both the 3x sale AND the 30% off weapons sale came about, so what would normally cost ~$30 worth of gems, I was able to afford quite easily. I'm sure you guys want some specs on what the Laser Minigun is actually like, so here you go.
For being the most expensive weapon in the game as of yet, the Laser Minigun isn't nearly as powerful as one would think it to be. I can certainly say that it does not have the highest DPS in the game; that honor still stays with the Chain Thunderbolt. I conducted tests on the DPS by recording the number of shots required to kill the Dragon in the campaign. Since the dragon has the most health of anything in PG3D, it is the most accurate reference with which to assess the relative firepower of weapons. I also recorded the rate of fire of said weapons, and used them to calculate the time it would take to kill the Dragon. Here are my results. I listed the weapon, followed by the number of shots required to kill the Dragon, followed by the rate of fire, followed by Las time it would thus take to kill the Dragon (reload times not counted).
Laser Minigun
59 shots
4.16 shots/second
[14.16 seconds]
Chain Thunderbolt
51 shots
12.5 shots/second
[4.08 seconds]
Dragon's Breath
47 shots
8 shots/second
[5.875 seconds]
Freeze Ray
56 shots
8 shots/second
[7 seconds]
Automatic Peacemaker UP2
128 shots
9 shots/second
[14.22 seconds]
As you can clearly see, the Laser Minigun does about as much damage per second as the Automatic Peacemaker UP2. That's the highest non-gem upgrade for the Automatic Peacemaker. That's terrible for a supposedly über-powerful weapon. The Chain Thunderbolt has, quite literally, 3.5x the DPS of that of the Laser Minigun, albeit at extremely short range. The Dragon's Breath and Freeze Ray deal over double the DPS.
Overall, the Laser Minigun is not really worth saving up 343 gems for. Your investments would be more worthwhile in upgrading existing weapons such as the Armageddon.
