A little bit. At least the lines look like they serve a purpose. In the New 52 it looked like they were added to try and spruce up Superman.

Well, on my laptop I right click on the image and select from the drop-down menu "Open Image in new tab.."
On the iOS device, you simply hold on the image, select "Copy", open a new tab, and in the address bar, double-tap and select "Paste". Then hit "enter" on the keyboard, and the direct link should give you the image.

It's probably possible, but I'd frown against it (too many gifs may cause lag on other devices).
