Hey guys, I've kind of been deciding this for myself, though I don't quite know. Should I save up for a used car, or a new computer?

Basically, for the car I need to save up $3-4,000 to buy a decent used one (in other words, I save up my pay and never spend it). For the computer, I'm hoping for like a $500+ gaming desktop, basically something to replace this junker of a laptop I use. :tongueout:

I know the computer sounds like an easier to obtain goal, but the car would probably last me a bit more. Anyways, tell me what you think.

It depends on what matters more to you. For instance, if you have work related things that you need a good computer for, then you should get a computer. However, I am not sure this is the case so I would get a car that can transport you places. Another reason to buy a car is that you actually have a computer so you can make do, but you don't have a car.

Depends gold. How much is the computer your looking. And also, what are you planing to do with the pc?

Car, mainly because you can go wherever you want, AND because you have a computer, but not a car. You could probably make-do with your current laptop.

As stated above, the computer I'm hoping to get is anywhere between $500-750, so I can use it to play video games that require more demanding graphics and processing power, such as Battlefield 4 and such. And, if it's powerful enough, I might decide to experiment with 3D modeling/design and the like.

A car since
A. You already have a laptop( even though its junk.)
B. You can go anywhere you want and impress your girlfriend or friends.
C. Also having a car will give you more skills like how to drive and how to work hard for something you want.
Anyway, the bigger question is is thatare you old enough for a liscence?

I'm about to have my driving test for my G2 driver's liscense, so yes I am old enough. At that time, (assuming I pass), I will also be included in my parent's insurance policy (meaning I will be able to legally drive a/both car(s) that my parents own). The insurance will be up to $430 a month, as I will be signed on as an extra driver. To cope with this, my parents want me to have a part-time job, so I can contribute part of my pay to the monthly insurance. If I had my own car to drive, however, it would lower the insurance (assuming my used car is small, like a Ford Ranger or Chevrolet S-10).

After discussing the debacle with my friend, he says that if I save up ALL of my paychecks (and still give part to my parents for insurance), I will run somewhere around a shade over $6,000 by the end of the school year. Which is enough for a small used car. Now if I went for the new computer halfway, I would probably wind up around $5,500 or less. Assuming I use my money for various payments however (such as entertainment, gifts, etc.), I would probably wind down to somewhere between $3-4,000, which is still just enough for a small used car (probably one in rough shape however).

I plan to take a year off after Grade 12, so I can save up for College. That year I will hopefully recuperate my financial losses. As long as nothing major happens, I'l be able to have enough for College.

Though I agree, I suppose I can lock it.
