First day of high school... (9th grade)

So after all these years, I'm heading to high school. Tomorrow. I was very, very nervous about this at first, still am,:coldsweat:but it can't be that bad, can it? (But my only real fear is just getting lost.) Just wanted to share that with you guys... And, please let me know in the comments, if you've already been through this, how was your first day?

My first day was fine, barely even noticed any change. But of course I'm homeschooled so I really don't know how public schoolers go through it. All I can say is Good Luck.

Actually, it's not that bad at first. Yes it will be scary you're starting over, back to the bottom but you know what school is like already. Work will be a bit harder and homework will possibly increase or decrease. You definitely need to make new friends and you'll get through the years together. Avoid making enemies. Seriously, you will regret it.

And my school is small (500 pupils, currently oversubscribed).

My first day:
>goes to school
>doesn't know anyone
>is shy
>shuts up 99.9 of the day
>just smile and nod
>secretly has questions but is too afraid
>teachers be nice
>be good to avoid getting bad marks
>almost gets lost
>pays attention
>wonders if can get away with sleeping
>is on good terms with folks
>dreadfully waits for the final bell
>bell rings
>dreadfully anticipates the next day of school

It went pretty good! (Although in my first few periods [aka mods now] I was in them with one of my friends from last year, so I just followed him to each one. )

Yep, what she said.

My first day was awkward. I knew only 2 others from my previous school, and both of them had different classes. I didn't exactly go up to everyone and act like they were my best friend and pat them on the back or anything. If you're wondering what society in HS is like, just don't even bother trying to communicate. 99% of the people are dumb in my opinion. Just wanna-be gangster children that try to act cool and don't even know how to speak english properly. The average, modern child in a nutshell. On the bright side, staff and teachers are quite friendly. Very much approachable.

If you have a guidance counselor, seek help from them if you need assistance for whatever reason. Don't join clubs just yet. Get the gist of the place before you do so. (Join some sophomore year, maybe.)

For academics, just remember to study a LOT. Most people there don't even bother studying. Don't be like them. If you wanna pass; study. Be the good kid. I did this, and I knocked almost everyone out of the ball park. I got honors and everything.

Most importantly, people will bring you down. Trust me, things have happened that year that have brought me effects similiar to, if not, PTSD. People even started harassing me, publicly embarassing me, and one girl who had a ''crush'' on me started to stalk me. Trust me, it was NOT fun. Don't end up in the same boat. Don't get too intimate with others. It'll backfire on you. Do not trust ANYONE.

That's all. GG. o/

Everyone's schooling experience is different. I myself attended a private school all the way from Kindergarten up to Grade 12 this past year.

First day of Grade 9, I had lost my circle of friends that I had built in Grade 8. Then again, I did know a few faces from my class (having seen them/talked with them over the years), so I obviously stuck with them pretty well. Talked a little bit, but not too much. In any case, it wasn't a year I made many close friends in, if any if I recall. Nonetheless, the teachers were good and helpful, I pretty well did half-decent that year (minus my Math mark, which I passed with a bare minimum of 50).

Words of advice? Well, I think everyone else pretty covered that (since I myself don't know many people who attended a private school, let alone attended the same campus for all 13 years of their education). I must say though, you definitely see a lot of good people come and go if you stay at the same place for as long as I did.

In any case, I'd like to say a quote for ya (and anyone else who may have the same issues):

"Good friends may come and go, but true friends stay with you no matter what."-Adam S., 2013
