Horror Stories with Termy: Episode 1: The Creature of The Barn

Howdy, peeps? Termy here! As some of you know, I'm this forum's horror fanatic. I'll be writing a few stories here and there in this forum, so make sure not to miss out! I'm probably going to make this a series on this forum because I'm just that bored right now. Anyways, turn off the lights, turn off all devices that make sound, and read this story. Enjoy!

I'm so glad that I've moved out of my old house. Alright, so it never was truly a house; it was just a rusty ol' barn. The reason behind why my cat, my mother, and I moved out was quite simple: there was something back there that I- no, we simply couldn't explain. No words in the english language would be eligible enough to be used in our description, so why bother...right? Wrong. Before I begin, let me just say that I am a big skeptic in the paranormal. I never have believed in ghosts or spirits, and I still don't, which leads me to my next statement: What I saw, is so unexplainable on such a high scale, that I'm not even sure that I can consider this as a paranormal experience. Now that I'm done telling you about what's on my mind, allow me to get to the actual story itself.
It all began on a Monday morning. My mom had said that she was heading into town to buy a couple of supplies for barn extension purposes, and that she was leaving me to do the rest of the chores. We do most of our chores early in the morning, therefore meaning that I only had a few chores left to do. As she left the house, I blew her a kiss and watched from the window as she sped away in her silver Toyota Highlander. She normally took a long time whenever she was out buying anything. It was as if she bought out the entire store. Lucky store owners. Anyway, before I continued doing my chores, I wanted to watch a bit of TV. I sat on the leather couch with my cat, whose name was Marla (named after my great aunt), and we got comfortable and turned on the TV to watch cartoons. I switched to one of her favorite channels, and we sat there having fun for a half hour. After this short period of time, she jumped out of my lap and sat on the window's ledge and stared out into the open. I thought she was just bored of staring at the TV for too long, so I patiently waited for her. After a certain amount of time, I got curious and started to ponder over why she wasn't watching TV with me. I walked over to her, and she was frozen stiff. After looking her over, I waved the palm of my hand a few inches away from Marla's face, just as anyone would, and she just twitched. Her line of sight still remained unbroken, and at that point, I assumed she was looking at something far away, so I followed her gaze. This was my first mistake. About a little less than a mile away, past the grazing field for the cows, I encountered a strange sight. At first glance, it looked like a short, chubby object with a white haze to it.. Then, it stood up. My heart sank in my chest. The cows were strolling away from the field. My cat was hissing. At that precise moment, so many thoughts were running through my head in a raging fury. Of course, me being the idiot I was, I thought it was an intruder. Without hesitation, I immediately ran upstairs and grabbed my private revolver. I ran downstairs just as quickly and bolted out the front door. The "thing" hadn't noticed me yet, and I wanted to made sure it did. I wanted to threaten it first hand to made sure that it never came back. This was my second mistake. As soon as I yelled at it, it started moving. I went pale, because it's movement was abnormal. This creature had long, spindly legs which it used to move around in a spider-like movement. It was moving towards the cows and I had no clue over what is was going to do or what it's intentions were. I pointed my gun at it as best as I could. Trust me, shooting something from half a mile away with a revolver isn't as easy as it sounds. I warned it to get off the property because I had the right to hurt it due to the fact that it was trespassing. This, was my third mistake. This time, this creature moved towards me. It was looking right at me and charging at my barn. Marla, who was behind me all along, ran back into the house at full speed. I, on the other hand, was genuinely terrified and couldn't move at all. I stood there, my heartbeat growing at an unstable rate. My hands were shaking, and I felt like dropping my gun and running far, far away. At tempting as it sounded to actually live rather than die, I knew that I had to defend my home. My mother always told me that I had to be as honorable as anyone in the world. The second she told me those words, I took pride in myself and swore to protect her and the home. Now that the appropriate time has come, it was time to prove myself worthy. I raised my quivering arm, gun in hand, and took aim. I was a pretty accurate shot, so I knew that my chances of missing were next to slim. I didn't want to waste a second, so I pulled the trigger and successfully hit the creature! The only issue was, as soon as the bullet penetrated this creature's flesh, it just..."disappeared." No body or anything. It simply disappeared. I ran out to investigate. I shot this thing from half a mile away, so I ran out pretty far. On top of this, I'm not sure if I even hit it or not. As soon as I got to the area which I believed was where the corpse was supposed to be, I couldn't find anything. I thought the disappearance was an optical illusion, and that I was just hallucinating from all the hot weather, but it turns out that it was a legitimate form of death for this creature. I took a moment to think of a logical explanation for this phenomenon, but I couldn't think of anything at all. I checked for any bullet holes in the ground, but once again failed in my endeavors. I must have been hallucinating...right? Well, not exactly. I'll tell you why in a second. I looked at our barn's garage and I saw my mom's car parked right next to it. I felt eager to go right up to her and tell her about what I saw. I didn't care if she believed me or not. I just wanted to tell her and relieve my mind of all this confusion. I ran as fast as my legs allowed me to, and right before I reached the front door, it burst open with such force that I felt the wind of it against my face. I closed my eyes and smiled for a brief second because this shred of wind felt like relief in the sweltering, hot weather. As I opened my eyes, so did my mouth, but in a jaw-dropping motion. What I saw approximately 5 feet in front of me was the creature that I had shot earlier. It was standing in front of me, ready for a real fight. In this moment, I saw exactly what it looked like up close. It had long, sharp fangs that had blood dripping from it (most likely cow blood due to the fact that it chased my cows earlier), black, almost empty eye sockets, and skin so pale that it was like white paper. On top of this, I saw its spider-like legs. It was completely black in shading and it made the creature stand up like a crab would. Before the two of us engaged in 1 on 1 combat, a silhouette appeared right behind this creature. Perfect timing. Wasn't going to survive this fight anyway. My mother stood behind the creature, frying pan ready in her hand. She raised it up high and dropped it down on its head with such force that it fell to the ground with a thud before it disappeared for a second time. Incredible. Without any questions, my mother grabbed me by the arm and told me to run to the car. I grabbed Marla on the way out, who was once again scared stiff, and ran to that Highlander like there was no tomorrow. We sped away and never looked back at that barn. Now that I'm officially settled into my new home, I can definitely say that I feel comfortable. Although, there is something odd about this place, because I could have sworn that I saw a strange figure standing in my back yard.
