Ghosts in Machines: Cypher [Part 2]

Fury

Retired Roleplayer
Months has passed, the plain robot had developed into something more, not man, nor machine. Cypher stood tall, and proud, his plain exterior now taking the form of a tall human man, well built with greater intelligence clear in his eyes.

Cypher looked around, he felt quite happy with his life, his father showed him the way of human life, how strangely amusing humans were. Leaning close to the grass in the garden, he observed a mantis eating a butterfly, "Father...why must the creatures attack each other?", Dr.Johnson sighed, his creation, his weapon was too soft at his digital heart.

"That's just how things are, son, you'll grow to understand soon enough....", the old man said softly, calibrating Cypher's emotional simulation, finding an empty slot "something's wrong....you're still...incomplete", he sighed.

"Am I not what you wanted, father? Have I malfunctioned?" Cypher questioned.

Johnson looked over at his desk, eyes scanning over old pictures, an image of him and his late wife, who he loved dearly....

A shock of memory had given the scientist a brainstorm, "I got it!!" he yelled, running straight to his holographic desk, making calculations, "you are missing one key emotion, my boy.....love"

Two years later, Cypher spent a joyful amount of his life, with his love, Sydney, another creation of his father.

Walking amongst the plant life of the garden, Cypher smiled at the peace and quiet of the night, hearing nothing but the buzz of fireflies and the soothing hum that emanated from Sydney.

The two artificial life forms smiled, each completing the other, their emotional bond giving them a purpose, as if they had true life.

Ian Johnson leaned against a chair, sweating profusely, heaving, as he saw his "son" enter the room, holding the hand of his beloved. "Cypher....the time has come....the Colonel shall visit in a few hours...you need to carry out your true purpose now...."

The android glanced towards his creator, confused, but held his tongue and complied.

Hours passed, and the colonel showed up. "Well, Johnson, show me where the funding was wasted....", the plump man said. The old scientist walked over to the outdoor range, pointing to Cypher, "Boy, show them what you're capable of..."
