███ Survival: Wicked Forest ███

[As always, I was not paid to write this. I always write reviews for games I find to be awesome, so that I can bring more people into the community. Basically, more people to play the game with.]

I've only done so many app reviews on this forum for games I've deemed worthy to be reviewed, and this is one of those games.

This, members of the forum, is Survival: Wicked Forest. Now, before I delve further into the explanation on what this game is, let me just start out by asking you if you know what H1Z1 is. Well? Do you? If not, then let me tell you. H1Z1 is a popular, open-world, multiplayer, zombie-survival game. You are a player, and your job is to survive in a world filled with NPCs and essentially other players. You can either choose to team up with other players and trust them with your life, or you can go around and murder everyone you see. What does this have to do with Survival: Wicked Forest? Survival: Wicked Forest is what a few people (including myself) like to call H1Z1 Mobile. Why? It's basically the entire concept of H1Z1 implemented into a game on your smartphone (NOT A RIP-OFF, MIGHT I ADD).

Now that I've explained an analogy between the 2 games, let me go on and explain Survival: Wicked Forest a bit more. In Survival: Wicked Forest, you are thrown into a somewhat medium-sized, multiplayer world, and you spawn with a revolver, 18 bullets (for 3 clips), and a bottle of water that has one sip left in it. Your job is to try and figure out how to survive in the wilderness. You have to mine ore, find food, find water towers to extract water from, build shelters, and maybe even kill other players for extra resources if you are desperate. You can create 2 different characters, and there are 3 different classes you can pick from. One is Hunter, the second is Engineer, and the last is Medic. They all have their own unique character perks, advantages, and disadvantages.

So far, there are already clans (apparently) even though the game is only a little over a month old. The community is small, but if we can get more players, then this game will most likely become big on the App Store, because it's a one of a kind.

Now, I'll cover the pros/cons, list some features in the process, list the details of the game in terms of the App itself, and write a conclusion.

Pros
  • Multiplayer that can house about 20 or more people per server/world.
  • Almost no lag.
  • Realistic. You have health, hunger, thirst, shelter, and sprint bars. Health depletes when you get hit by NPCs, and you have to heal yourself with meds. Hunger depletes when you're hungry, and you need to eat. Thirst depletes when you're thirsty, and you have to find water towers for clean water to drink. Shelter depletes when it's raining and you're outside, and you have to find shelter. Sprint depletes when you have been running for a long time (and when you're mobile data plan sucks

) and you have to stop sprinting.
  • Has a chat system.
  • Has missions that you can complete.
  • You can loot NPCs and killed players for their stuff.
  • You can build your own bases.
  • You can raid bases of those who you deem to be enemies.
  • Multiple servers. Each player of the game is allowed to house one server per device that they play on, and the server's name will be based upon the player's name. Say I start up my home world on my iPad. My name in the game is TermyYT, so the world name will appear as ''TermyYT's World'' to anyone who wants to join.
  • Crafting system.
  • Un-crafting system. You can break down stuff you don't want into extra materials.
  • Collection system. (shows which items [out of all ] you have collected so far)
  • Clothes/Armor system.
  • Skills system. Every time you level up, you get a skill point, and you can upgrade certain aspects of your character with said skill points.
  • Loot rarity upgrades as you level up. You get chances of rarer drops as you level up further and further. Levels cap at 30.
  • Storage system in chests.
  • Weather system.
  • 1st/3rd person view. (I prefer 3rd person because it helps to see around corners.)
  • Tons of weapons and firearms.
  • Has some friendly players that are willing to help you out.
  • When you die, you lose your character along with all your stuff. Why is this a pro? Because it adds to the realism. That's why this game will always keep you at the edge of your seat, ready to pull the trigger. That's also why trust is a "hard resource to hand out."
  • The game is starting to become popular on streaming sites such as Mobcrush.
  • Torrent exists on AppCake for those of you who are jailbroken and want the game for free.
Cons
  • Sometimes, connections issues will occur (with other players). Do note that this is NOT lag, but rather, you will see certain players (who are playing from the other side of the world) teleport-walking around.
  • Certain NPCs are not smart. Enemy NPCs will run at you, yes, but if they are, let's just say a deer, they will try and run up the sides of walls in order to try and escape from you. Don't worry, though. Developer said he's going to fix terrain glitches and maybe NPCs next update.
  • Language barriers exist. While most of us will be American in the game, there will be some who actually speak Japanese. Apparently, this game has attracted a lot of Japanese people.
  • As mentioned above, terrain glitches. Sometimes, you will be able to go through certain walls if you try hard enough.
  • No online guide exists as of right now. This means you'll have to either ask other players about the game if you're confused on something, or you have to try and figure it out yourself. Don't worry, though. I've messaged the developer asking if he could make a guide for us players, so that it isn't as rough of a beginning.
  • Some players are relentless and will try and kill you. Not all people are friendly. Trust no one fully.
  • Hard to survive. But hey, that adds to the realism. It's even worse in real life because you have to pay taxes.
  • No fall damage will be taken if you decide to jump down from a high height. I'm hoping fall damage will be implemented in the future. As of right now, this is technically an advantage, but it does take away from the realism a bit, so I'm listing this as a con.
  • Chat only exists when you're in an actual world. Unfortunately, you can't chat with other players who are in the lobby. I hope this becomes a feature in the future.
Details of the App

So, now I'll cover a few of the details of the app in the App Store itself.

Latest Update Date as of right now: March 28, 2016.
Current Version as of right now: 1.2
Average Rating: 4 stars.

And finally, the one detail you've all been waiting for as gamers...

In-App Purchases: None.

Conclusion

So, would I recommend this game? Yep. It's made the time fly so quickly that an hour of gameplay felt like 5 minutes. It's really fun, and will keep you entertained for hours on end. So far, the game has really impressed me, and even more so because of the popularity that it has been gaining in the past month, especially on Mobcrush. This is basically H1Z1 in the palm of your hand, and that's what makes this so amazing.

If you do decide to get it, have fun, and enjoy!

[Forgive me for double posting, but I added this extra post below my original so that it is a seperate message from the review.]

If you have any questions about the game, feel free to ask me. Also, this thread could be like a discussion thread for this game. If anyone decides to get the game, tell me. I'd be happy to guide you around in-game.

Let's be honest, H1Z1 is utter rubbish.

But no in-app purchase? That's something I haven't seen in over five years.

H1Z1 is actually pretty good, in my opinion. It's a unique experience, and so is this game.

And yeah, no in-app purchases. This is one of those games where in-app purchases simply won't fit anywhere without it completely ruining the game.

Make a comparison to Radiation Island.

Gameplay: Radiation Island wins.
Multiplayer: Survival: Wicked Forest wins.

That's the best tl;dr I can come up with. But I can't compare the two yet because Survival: Wicked Forest is still, in fact, in it's early stages of development.

Btw, breaking news! New update for Wicked Forest is coming this week. It fixes terrain and many bugs + glitches.

I'll wait for your input when Wicked Forest is on par with Radiation Island.
