Dedicated Server System

Hey guys, I am partly making this thread to prove you won't get locked threads here, and partly because I believe it's a good idea to put in-game.

A dedicated server option would be a great way to expand Pixel Gun 3D's community. Basically, this option would entail far more customization involved than with the regular server option setup. It would allow for options such as specific weapon usage, specific skin use, etc. The server could also be set up open with no slots, similar to the random public servers the developers have set. With the option you would also have things such as server slot selection (with a maximum for 10 regardless of mode), change modes/maps at will through the dedicated server client feature, and appoint moderators and such from your friend list for the server. This would allow for a server host to have more security on a server, so that players are following rules and such.

The other thing with this option would be that users would have to pay to keep the server up. The system would be relatively cheap though. Perhaps something like this subscription plan:
  • 2 weeks = $0.99
  • 1 month =$1.99
  • 2 months = $4.99
  • 6 months = $7.99
  • 12 months = $11.99
It would weed our prom hosts from more dedicated players. Plus, with the moderator feature, those players would be able to boot players from servers if they disobeyed rules and such. Further disruption would result in an IP ban from said server (though that may not happen). Anyways, I think perhaps something similar to a whitelist/blacklist option would work for this method.

Tell me your thoughts on this idea. ;)

Ok, after a minor argument with Recon in the shoutbox about this, here's a TL;DR version.

Dedicated server system would have this:
  • Keep your server up all the time (even when nobody's on it)
  • Controlled weapon use (all players could have the same weapon(s) to use for a specific game mode)
  • Change maps and modes at will
  • Server Admin and Moderator positions would be possible (to make sure everyone follows rules)
  • Boot/kick option for server staff (possible IP ban option)
  • Whitelist/blacklist option (for clan specific servers)
  • Payment options (to keep the server up for a set amount of time)

They should use your suggestion but only when they've introduced cross-platforming into the game.
I also think that you wouldn't need to pay that much since you can already make you're own server and password protect it.

True, but I was just throwing some generic pricing in the way. The prices would totally be up to Rilisoft, though I agree, when iOS and Android have cross-platformed, only then would this suggestion have more widespread use.

It just would mean all the prom people would have their own dedicated servers..... So no more party crashing.......

Not everyone's willing to throw money at these sorts of things, Snap. Prom servers may be setup, but there will always be the non-dedicated ones too.

I suppose alternatively, if Rilisoft wants to have more people on this, they could just put the service as free and/or open-source, like PocketMine-MP for MCPE.

yep thats a clearer defination of what i was talking about. no more party crashing

How about bases. These updates are making us closer to contact the same players we have met.
At the way things are going, I'd rather if they did have a clan mode actually. That way clans could challenge each other, if they have 4 or more people, and have 4 members at least present at the time they are challenged. This way, it would cause for some more action group-wise, and if they add a Clan Leaderboard (dreadful as it may seem), it would turn to a more competitive strait. On the plus side, it would also push clans to prove their worthiness, and enhance their skills.

How about they censor any words that involve dating such as gf/bf, Boy, Girl, p****, t***, Prom, that stuff, in server name and in game chat to lower the chances of daters.

Seems like an OK idea because some things could still go wrong -cough-banning-cough- because let me see... You could get banned for just killing the host or something...
I am aware of banning and such going out of hand, however this is also why I recommend a payment option alongside it. You aren't going to find many young people with money to blow to host a server, and even if you do, they won't have much traction for their servers if their reception is poor. Now someone who's mature and has the money to spend on it, will probably be more reasonable and gain favourable reception for their server. Alternatively, I did recommend that the server host would have control over most aspects of the server, such as granting no weapons for the players, an invincibility effect so players can't kill each other, etc. Plus, server staff would be composed from user's on the hosts's friend list, granting the host the ability to set an amount of players on their list as Moderators.

I did also bring up the option of having a whitelist/blacklist option much like Minecraft's servers have, that way people would need to request permission to join a server.

I'm bumping this thread, and moving it to Suggestions/Feedback board. We need this.

This should have been implemented before the updates started going to the direction of Pay to Win, then maybe, they could have gotten money from this.

OMG FINALLY! A great idea that gets rilisoft money and keeps us happy! Oh and quick suggestion: what if (to make it more amry themed) the owner of the server could have clases setup. like class 1 heave sniper class 2 spy, etc.
As said, the server could permit specific loadouts. Class loadouts however may have to be more like a server plugin though.

Lets all just hope it won't end up like in Gears of War 3. The Dedicated Servers in that game sponged a lot of people to death. Otherwise, a neat idea if I do say so myself.

P.S. Sponging is referred to the type of lag where you can't seem to move, almost to the point where the map itself is trying to suck you in place, and traps you in that position. Like how a sponge gathers water (both artificial, and natural)
P.P.S. Qwerty is using big words again

  • Lifetime = $99.99
Expensive but people will buy this stuff... idk why...

I believe a "Lifetime" purchase could still be abused by hackers. That's why subscriptions like the ones I listed might actually be more beneficial to RiliSoft.

NO NOT THE BOOT KICK!!! DATERS ARE GONNA KICK US OUT!!! NUUUuuUUUU!!!!

As said, this would only be for dedicated servers. No non-dedicated server will have the tools I listed above in the quote.

Plus, daters don't strike me as the type to blow cash. Even if they start setting up dedicated servers, there will always be non-dedicated servers.
